Rice, Confetti and Firecrackers

undefined
As in any country, a Spanish wedding is a big day of celebration. Spaniards have kept some unique traditions through the years and adapted others to modern times. For example, the bride and groom exchange 13 coins as a symbol of the wealth they will evenly share. Spanish couples typically don’t have groomsmen or bridesmaids, it is just the bride and groom. The end of the ceremony is announced with a big explosion of firecrackers and when the newlyweds leave the church they are congratulated with rice, confetti and more firecrackers.

I took this from a distance (using a zoom lens) while in Segovia.  I thought I had a great spot for taking this shot – no one else was near me – until I realised the firecrackers were right by my feet!

Often when I travel I come across wedding processions, and I just can’t resist capturing them, such as the one I saw during Semana Santa in San Miguel de Allende.
